DOCTOR DERANGE Arguably the archest of young Bond's arch enemies, Doctor Derange is the mind behind a sizeable bulk of S.C.U.M.'s criminal portfolio. His technical genius is second to none - even if his grasp of common sense is a little under par - and his crazed (read 'crazéd') dodgy French accent and somewhat dubious dress-sense confirm his credentials as the ultimate mad scientist. No scheme or invention is too outlandish for Derange - indeed, the sheer unfeasibility of most of his plots perhaps explains why he almost gets away with them so often. Almost, of course, is the operative word; he has been humiliated so many times by James that the two have struck up quite a rapport. No bad guy symbolises James Bond Jr better than Doctor Derange - the show's most frequently-occurring head villain. He's such a regular feature, indeed, that his episodes can become tiresome if not up to scratch (Invaders from S.C.U.M.). Those that are up to scratch, however, are among the show's most enjoyable (The Eiffel Missile, The Emerald Key, Red Star One).
