TREVOR NOSEWORTHY IV

A sycophant, snob, scaredy-cat and shameless sneak, Trevor Noseworthy IV is James Bond Junior's chief thorn-in-the-side - at least so far as school is concerned. Jealous of James's natural popularity, and keen to score points with Mr Milbanks, Trevor spends most of his days hatching hare-brained schemes to get young Bond into bother. Unfortunately for Trevor, they never seem to come to fruition, and usually backfire so that Trevor is the one to receive Milbanks's ritual roasting. Despite his myriad faults, Trevor does not wish genuine harm to come to James (who deep down considers him a friend) - but is nonetheless characteristically ungrateful whenever Bond saves his skin.

Although Trevor provides plenty of genuinely humorous moments throughout the series, there is a tendency to use his character as a filler to make up the twenty-two minutes, as opposed to a contributor to the thrust of the story, meaning he's often superfluous and irritating as a result. It's therefore no surprise that while Trevor appeared in every episode of the TV series bar The Emerald Key and Catching the Wave, he was excluded from a number of the comic books - presumably due to space constraints. There are a few episodes of the show, however, in which Trevor does play a more important part, including in There But For Ms Fortune and The Inhuman Race, in which he's kidnapped by the villains and has to be rescued; and Hostile Takeover, where he plays a key part in feeding information to the suspicious new headmaster, Mr Baxter. Occasionally, as in the comic story Absolute Zero, he inadvertently saves the day - although such incidents are admittedly few and far between.
