COACH BURTON 'BUDDY' MITCHELL

Buddy Mitchell is the resident sports coach at Warfield Academy, first in command on foreign excursions and valued mentor to James and his friends. But there's more to Mitchell than meets the eye. Knowing and worldly-wise, he retains 'unofficial connections' with the American security services, of whom he was once an employee - and, although rarely involved in the action directly, is often complicit in helping James to escape from school grounds in order to combat S.C.U.M.. While the gang's away, Coach Mitchell often provides ancillary support by keeping an eye on telltale Trevor Noseworthy - preventing him from informing Mr Milbanks of James's adventures.
